switchnowipaddoodler asked: continued: I don't want to sound like I know anything about clarinets, but i'm speaking about my own (limited) experience: if you plan on buying a wooden clarinet, do not use it for marching band, if you plan on doing that in high school. Wooden clarinets easily crack, so you need to be careful with the humidity and temperature. And make sure to keep your clarinet in good condition: use the swab that's usually given, use cork grease, all that stuff. I'm sure google will be a friend!
Thanks!
switchnowipaddoodler asked: About that anonymous- you shouldn't buy a wooden clarinet just yet if you're starting out; what are you going to do if you decide you don't want to play anymore? Try renting one, and if you like it, buy that rented clarinet. I did that at my music shop, though I'm not sure if it works that way where you live. Anyways, be mindful that you will be spending a decent amount of money on reeds-keep your reeds in good condition by buying a few reed cases to hold your reeds. To be continued
Thanks for the tips! I just reccomeded buying because at my local music store, a year of rental is the same cost as a used clarinet. Don’t be afraid to buy used! However, make sure to get a maintainence plan. I only pay $40 a year for mine, and it covers hundreds of dollars of work I need done on my clarinet because the climate I live in is super rough on it, even with products that prevent seasonal issues.
Anonymous asked: Hi I am willing to play clarinet in our school band next year should I know anything first like if it is hard to play
You’ll love it! Just be sure to buy a quality clarinet from a reputable music store. It should be a wood clarinet. Yamaha makes pretty good beginner clarinets, buffet makes amazing clarinets, and the bliss clarinet is a nice intermediate model that I like a lot.
